Alexander Inn

The Alexander Inn, once known as “The Guest House,” is one of the most historically significant landmarks in Oak Ridge. Designed by the renowned Chicago architectural firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, it was built in 1942 as part of the top-secret Manhattan Project. In its prime, this elegant saltbox-style hotel welcomed an extraordinary guest list, including famed industrialists, scientists such as Robert Oppenheimer, and even President John F. Kennedy and his wife, Jackie.

DKLEVY Architecture + Design had the honor of restoring this historic treasure, preserving its original glory while thoughtfully converting it into a vibrant Memory Care and Assisted Living community. The design carefully balances the protection of historic architectural elements with the integration of modern amenities to support today’s senior residents.

The project reflects our deep commitment to intentional architecture and interior design, using historical resources and details to celebrate and preserve architectural legacy. With 64 thoughtfully curated senior apartments, the Alexander Guest House now serves the senior community of Oak Ridge, providing affordable, high-quality housing for those who have contributed richly to society.
