Originally constructed in 1914 as an elementary school, Oakwood Senior Living transformed a historic neighborhood landmark into a welcoming assisted living community while preserving the character and legacy of the original building. Located just off Central Avenue in Knoxville’s historic Oakwood neighborhood, the 55,000-square-foot adaptive reuse project includes 62 assisted living residences and offers convenient access to downtown attractions, including the Tennessee Theatre and Knoxville Museum of Art.

The community combines historic architecture with comfortable residential amenities designed to support connection, independence, and quality of life. Shared spaces, including a beauty salon and billiards room, provide opportunities for recreation and social engagement within a familiar, home-like setting. Recognized for excellence in preservation and senior living, the project received the 2016 Presidential National Preservation Project of the Year Award and the Senior Advisor Best Senior Living Award.
