Originally constructed as a school, the Hagerstown Assisted Living Facility will transform an approximately 89,000-square-foot historic building in Hagerstown, Maryland, into a welcoming senior living community while preserving and restoring the architectural character of the existing structure. The adaptive reuse project is designed to create a stimulating, comfortable, and homelike environment where residents can receive personal care, nursing, dining, therapy, and other supportive services.

The renovated facility will include 84 assisted living residences, including 16 units dedicated to memory care. Developed through the combined senior living expertise of Gravity, DKLEVY Architecture and Design, and the broader pre-development team, the project carefully balances historic preservation with the specialized needs of assisted living and memory care residents. The design prioritizes safety, accessibility, dignity, and meaningful social connection while supporting residents’ independence and overall quality of life.
